A pickup truck slammed into a home in Berkeley Township on Friday, Dec. 5, after the driver had a medical episode, authorities said.
Officers responded to the crash near Jamaica Boulevard and St. Catherine Boulevard at 2:55 p.m., according to Berkeley Township police. When officers arrived, they found a 2014 Dodge Ram that had crossed the intersection, struck a parked 1969 Volkswagen Beetle, and drove through a garage before entering the living room of the home.
Police said the crash damaged the hot water heater and caused a natural gas leak. The driver was trapped inside the vehicle.
The Manitou Park Fire Department and the Pinewald Pioneer Fire Department responded to the scene and were able to extract the driver from the truck, police said. New Jersey Natural Gas and JCP&L arrived to shut off utilities and secure surrounding homes.
The residents of the home were not injured, according to police.
Investigators believe the driver experienced “a serious medical episode” that caused the crash. He was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center for treatment.
Jamaica Boulevard was closed for about 90 minutes during the investigation. After the fire department stabilized the structure, Jersey Shore Towing removed the vehicle, police said.
