ATLANTA — Waymo announced plans to file a voluntary software recall after multiple reports that the company's autonomous vehicles illegally passed stopped school buses.
A video of an incident first surfaced in September involving an Atlanta Public School's bus as children were being let off it. Even though no one was hurt, it still raised a lot of necessary concerns about the driverless vehicles.
Later, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) began evaluating the company's automatic driving system. Before this, more cases involving Waymo illegally passing school buses came to light in the state, including in Texas. No injuries occurred related to the vehicle behavior addressed by this recall, according to the company.
