SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - The Springfield Fire Department is investigating a house fire that occurred early Sunday morning after police responded to a mental health crisis call.

Around midnight, police were sent to conduct a welfare check in the 1300 block of North Sherman Avenue after a woman called 911 appearing to be suffering from a mental health crisis.

When officers arrived at the scene, they heard a fire alarm and smelled smoke coming from a room at the back of the house. Officers were able to rescue the woman from the house through a window.

The woman was taken to a hospital for evaluation. The fire department was called to extinguish the fire and investigate the cause.
