A number of flights have been diverted to Newcastle after a major UK airport suspended operations.
Edinburgh Airport was forced to halt both departures and arrivals on Monday (December 8) after an issue with a plane on its runway.
The flight in question, British Airways flight BA1443 to Heathrow, declared an emergency after departing the airport just after 11am and was immediately diverted back.
The plane "landed safely" and passengers were safely removed but the airport confirmed that inspections had to be carried out before normal operations could continue.
Flights were diverted to other UK airports including Newcastle.
An Aer Lingus flight from Dublin was due to land in Edinburgh at 1pm, but was instead diverted to the North East airport, with a British Airways flight from Heathrow
