A 60-year-old Bergen County man has been arrested on charges that he sexually assaulted a child and later attempted to persuade the victim to hide the abuse, authorities said.
Charging documents obtained by Daily Voice show that the father of the 15-year-old victim was looking through her phone when he found sexually-explicit texts with a man later identified as 60-year-old Mauro Alves-Ribeiro, of Englewood.
The girl's dad contacted the NYPD, which began an investigation, charging documents show. Englewood police then contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday, Dec. 4, Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
According to arrest documents, Alves-Ribeiro raped the girl multiple times between June and September in an Englewood home, then tried to hinder the case by instructing the girl to delete texts that were sexual in nature.
Alves-Ribeiro was charged on Friday, Dec. 5, with two counts of second-degree sexual assault, four counts of second-degree sexual assault, third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree hindering an investigation, and fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, officials said. He was taken to the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing in Superior Court in Hackensack.
