Forget easing into the season. Girls basketball hit the ground running the first full week of 2025-26 with big games bearing local, state and national implications.

Defending Class 5 state champion Princess Anne, No. 1 in the 757Teamz Top 15, capped the first week with a game in the Princess Anne Tipoff Classic it hosted against Class 6 state runnerup Manchester. The Cavaliers, ranked as high as No. 7 nationally, beat the Lancers 71-32 led by its All-Tidewater trio of Micah Ojo (22 points, 14 rebounds, five blocks), Tristan Rickenbacker (15 points, 11 rebounds, four steals) and Jizelle James (13 points, 10 rebounds).
