OPELIKA, Ala. (WTVM) - Opelika Police Chief Shane Healey announced his retirement after more than three decades of serving the community.

His retirement is effective March 1 of next year.

Since starting his career in 1991 and rising through the ranks to Opelika police chief in 2021, Healey has seen positive results through the “Together Opelika” initiative.

Under his leadership, Opelika has seen a 6.9 percent drop in major crime, increased public support and national recognition.

“It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve citizens of Opelika,” Healey said in a statement.
