A significant weather system tracking through southeast Saskatchewan has triggered multiple warnings from Environment Canada and led to difficult travel conditions this morning.
Freezing rain began falling overnight, coating Weyburn and the surrounding area in a layer of ice. As of 6:26 a.m., the Highway Hotline has issued Travel Not Recommended advisories for Highway 39, Highway 13, and Highway 35 in all directions out of Weyburn. All highways in the Estevan area have been closed.
Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for the region, noting that a low-pressure system from Alberta is driving the weather event. The freezing rain is expected to taper off by Tuesday afternoon, but conditions will remain hazardous.
