NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — A Berkeley County man previously convicted of a felony is out on bond following a traffic stop during which police say they found drugs and a loaded weapon.
Brandon Dequan Rivers, 24, of Cross, is charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person.
Police say they arrested Rivers after they pulled him over near Ashley Phosphate and Mazyck Roads just after noon Saturday on suspicion that his car had an illegal window tint.
During the stop, police say they smelled marijuana, leading them to search the car.
Officers say they found a loaded handgun in the car’s glove compartment. As Rivers has been previously convicted of a felony, he is not legally permitted to own or be in possession of weapons.
