Milford High School went into lockdown Monday morning after what turned out to be a false report that a student had a gun in a bathroom, officials said.

A person suspected of making the report to police has been detained in Tennessee, officials said.

Families were notified in a message at 11:28 a.m. that the school was under a shelter-in-place order “out of an abundance of caution” as police investigated the unverified report.

Police determined the “incident was a hoax,” the alert said.

In a statement, the district’s superintendent, Craig Consigli, and the high school’s principal, Joshua Otlin, said police spoke with students and staff and searched the school but “found no threat and no weapon.”
