A violent thug who throttled his ex-girlfriend when he found her with another man after their split has been locked up.

Tyler Ackerley flew into a 'jealous rage' when he showed up at his ex-partner's home despite them no longer being together.

The 26-year-old stabbed the man who was with his ex before throttling the woman.

He only released his grip around her throat and fled the scene when he heard police sirens in the distance.

When police turned up at the woman's home, she revealed how Ackerley had been abusing her for years.

Ackerley admitted causing grievous bodily harm, intentional strangulation and engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour.
