The measles outbreak in South Carolina exploded with 27 new infections, the Department of Public Health reported Dec. 9 , more than double any previous update and pushing the state to one of the highest current outbreaks in the country at 111 cases.
There are also more than 250 unvaccinated people now in quarantine, which includes students at a new Spartanburg County school, public health said. The state has seen a total of 114 cases since July.
Most of the 16 new cases were associated with the Way of Truth Church in Inman, where there were at least nine previous cases. The church has not responded to emails from The Post and Courier.
A school in that area, Inman Intermediate, also had an exposure, and 43 students are currently quarantined there.
