SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

Two 5-year-olds whose Altadena home was destroyed in the Eaton Fire that burned in Los Angeles County will help light the California State Capitol Tree on Wednesday.

Twins Jude and Rebecca Kessler are set to join Gov. Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom for the 42nd annual tree lighting, which takes place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Members of the public are invited to attend the event on the West Lawn of the Capitol, which will also feature a holiday train for kids and a cookie station.

Each year, the tree lighting ceremony features a child with an intellectual or developmental disability who receives support from one of California’s 21 nonprofit regional centers. The centers serve more than 480,000 Californians.
