OKEMOS, Mich. (WILX) - As Mid-Michigan prepares for a First Alert Weather Day, health providers are warning that the incoming heavy, wet snow can take a real toll on the body.
Forecasters expect two to four inches around Lansing and slightly lower totals toward Jackson as slushy, dense snow moves in Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. This type of snow doesn’t drift; it packs down, and that weight can hit fast once you start shoveling.
“Cold definitely stresses the heart more, so we need to make sure we take breaks. Don’t overwork yourself. Even though it’s cold out, we got to make sure we stay well hydrated,” said nurse practitioner Kyle Cook with Redicare in Okemos, adding that this is the exact snow that sends people into urgent care.
