DALLAS — In the midst of re-election bids, Gov. Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick are offering competing ideas for additional property tax relief.
One plan is to make Texas school property taxes completely a thing of the past. The other includes what Patrick on Tuesday dubbed "Operation Double Nickel."
"I don't want to make anyone who's 55 feel old," Patrick said. "Although you can go to Denny's and get the Grand Slam breakfast at 55. They consider you a senior."
And his proposal would offer his own early grand slam of sorts for Texas "double nickel" homeowners too.
The median home price in Dallas is in the neighborhood of $400,000, which, with an effective tax rate of 1.74% means an annual property tax bill in the neighborhood of $7,000, less with state homestead exemptions and the
