EL CENTRO — For Elizabeth Garcia, the road to earning her teaching credential was “very tough,” but as she celebrated her graduation ceremony on Monday, her overwhelming feeling was one of pride and excitement.

A lifelong Calexico resident, Garcia has been working toward this goal since she was a child.

“I feel like I always wanted to be a teacher since I was little,” Garcia said. “I would admire my teachers a lot, and I was always a teacher's pet. I love passing materials and all that and just helping other people.”

A challenging, yet rewarding, journey
