WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. ( WISN ) - Three Department of Corrections staff members have been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation over notification procedures, after Morgan Geyser cut off her ankle monitor and escaped her group home last month.

Geyser, known for stabbing a fellow 12-year-old nearly to death in 2014 to appease the internet character Slenderman, was placed in a group home in Madison after being conditionally released from a mental facility this past summer.

On Nov. 22, Madison police said she cut off her ankle monitor and left the home. About 24 hours later, police found her in Posen, Illinois, sleeping outside a gas station with a 43-year-old friend.
