WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A man accused of abuse in the death of a 4-year-old child in Wichita on Monday now faces a new charge.
Sedgwick County booking records show 34-year-old Daniel Martin was booked early Tuesday morning for one count of child abuse. A count of first-degree murder has been added.
Martin has not yet been charged in the case. He is expected to make his first appearance before a judge in the coming days.
Officers responded at around 3:20 p.m. Monday to a medical call regarding an unresponsive child at River Walk Apartments in the 2600 block of South Topeka. WPD spokesperson Rick Pena said the child was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead at 4:07 p.m.
