A Carteret man was arrested and charged after he attempted to a deposit a fraudulent check for more than $22,000, authorities announced Tuesday, Dec. 9.
Officers responded to the Valley National Bank at 100 Durham Ave. on Monday, Dec. 1, after Antwan Harrell attempted to deposit a phony check for $22,389.11, South Plainfield police said.
Bank staff said Harrell had called shortly after and said he would be returning to retrieve a deposit receipt, police said.
Officers positioned themselves nearby, and a short time later, Harrell returned and entered the bank’s drive-thru lane, police said.
He was immediately intercepted, taken into custody without incident, and charged with two counts of forgery, police said.
