If the Maple Leafs weren’t already in a sour mood after learning Tuesday night of Bobby McMann’s one-game suspension , Wednesday’s practice brought some more bad news.
Dakota Mermis, victim of a knee-on-knee hit from Tampa Bay Lightning forward Gage Goncalves that started fireworks leading to McMann’s actions, is on injured reserve retroactive Tuesday.
Nick Robertson appears set to return after a one-game benching in McMann’s place, on a line with Easton Cowan and John Tavares. The bigger story there would be William Nylander, without a point in four games, moved down with checkers Nicolas Roy and Dakota Joshua .
The Leafs have called up defenceman Henry Thrun, coincidentally just before a game against his old team, the San Jose Sharks, on Thursday.
