Authorities say they have identified the body of a 79-year-old man found handcuffed and moldering inside a Stamford home following a fatal standoff earlier this month.
Carmine Boccuzzi, who was renting a room at 263 Oaklawn Ave., has been identified as the decomposed body found inside, Stamford police said Dec. 10. The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled Boccuzzi's death a homicide. The office reported blunt impact injuries to the head and torso with gagging.
Investigators identified Boccuzzi through DNA that matched a family member.
When and why Boccuzzi was killed and who is responsible remain unclear. Stamford police have opened a homicide investigation.
Police found Boccuzzi's body after an hours-long standoff and shootout with 63-year-old Jed Parkington, who lived at the home with his wife. A marshal had arrived on Dec. 2 to evict them.
Boccuzzi's name was also on the eviction order.
Boccuzzi's identification came a day after the Connecticut Office of Inspector General released a preliminary report into the violent standoff between Parkington and Stamford police that included multiple body camera and drone videos taken during the siege.
Officers were called to the home around 9 a.m. after a marshal met Parkington and his wife in their driveway. As they walked to the back of the house, Parkington, who was wearing a uniform with nazi emblems, pushed his wife toward the man and told him to get her somewhere safe, along with the ominous warning, "this is not going to end well."
Stamford police continue to investigate the incident.
