Sault Community Theatre Centre has cancelled an upcoming performance by Canadian comedian Ben Bankas because his material “does not align” with the venue’s “stated values of respect, inclusion and cultural diversity.”
President Chris Rous did not identify specific content by the host of The Bankas Show on YouTube that prompted the centre’s executive to scrub the March 6 date. The decision was made Tuesday evening during an online meeting attended by about eight members. Rous, with ties of more than 35 years to the venue, said it’s “very rare” for a show to be axed.
