APACHE JUNCTION, AZ (AZFamily) — Apache Junction police de-escalated a potentially dangerous situation Wednesday afternoon after a person experiencing a crisis episode told officers there was dynamite in their car.
Officers responded to Axiom Care near Apache Trail and Ocotillo Drive , which is west of Ironwood Drive, for a distressed person.
They said they built a rapport with the person, providing reassurance and support that helped de-escalate the situation.
During the conversation, the unidentified person said there were explosives in the car.
AJPD asked the Mesa Police Department’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit (EOD) to assess and handle the materials.
