CHANDLER, Ariz. — The battle over a proposed data center in Chandler will come to a head Thursday night with a city council vote on the project.

The fight is drawing national media attention and intense opposition from Chandler residents.

Emails to the Chandler City Council were running 20 to 1 against the $2 billion project as of the end of last week, according to a city spokesman.

'Feel strongly about this'

“This is the first time that I have felt strongly enough about something to reach out,” middle school teacher Karly Barksdale said in an interview with 12News.

Barksdale wrote one of the more than 100 emails opposing the massive data center.

“I have loved living here, and I haven't had any concerns or gripes about things. But I do feel pretty strongly about this.”
