AVONDALE, Ariz. — Less than a month after an Agua Fria High School band student was killed, another student's death has shaken the Avondale community.

A 15-year-old boy, Josiel Torres Acevedo, was struck and killed by a train Friday afternoon near Dysart Road and Main Street, his family said. Avondale police confirmed those details. The circumstances leading to the collision remain under investigation.

Loved ones have since built a memorial just steps from where his family says he was struck while crossing the tracks.

“He was happy, a respectful child, a good son, a good grandson, a good brother,” said his mother, Melynaisa Acevedo Rivera, who spoke to 12News in Spanish, which was then translated into English by 12News.
