Bhubaneswar: Biswa Bhushan Rout, a 37-year-old man from Odisha’s Kendrapada who had been suffering from Ankylosing Spondylitis for almost two decades, received a new lease of life after three complex surgeries performed by the Orthopaedics department of AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

Rout’s condition had resulted in complete fusion of his spine and both hips, which caused a severe, rigid deformity that left his trunk bent and immobile from neck to hips. His spine and thighs formed a nearly 150-degree angle, leaving his chin almost touching his thighs. ADVERTISEMENT
