People have been evacuated from a chocolate factory with firefighters rushing to tackle the blaze that has led to injuries.
Crews are at the Mondolez factory in Chirk, north Wales , with one person commenting on social media that they heard an 'explosion' before emergency services arrived at around 11am this morning. A statement from the firm confirmed that a "small number of individuals" received treatment on site for what was described as "minor injuries" at the plant following the fire.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it had four fire engines at the blaze. A spokesperson said: "We’re currently in attendance at a fire in a factory on Station Avenue, Chirk. Four crews are currently at the scene and staff have been evacuated from the building."
The fire has now been brought under control and an investigation will now begin to establish the cause. In an update the fire service said: "Crews will be shortly leaving the scene of the fire at a factory on Station Avenue, Chirk.
"A small fire in industrial equipment has now been extinguished. A joint investigation between the Service and the company involved will be launched into the cause of the fire."
A spokesperson from Mondelez International said: “A safety incident occurred at our Chirk site this morning relating to a roaster. The emergency services attended and quickly brought the situation under control.
"All of our employees are safe, with a small number of individuals receiving medical attention on site for minor injuries. The safety and wellbeing of our employees is our primary concern. We will continue to provide our full support to the emergency services and authorities whilst they are on site and with their ongoing investigation.”
Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed that nobody required hospital treatment, reported North Wales Liv e. A spokesperson said: “We were called shortly before 11.00am to an incident at a factory on Station Avenue, Chirk. We sent one ambulance to the scene, where the crew were supported by a senior paramedic, a Cymru high acuity response unit paramedic and an operations manager. No-one was conveyed to hospital."
North Wales Police have confirmed they are assisting North Wales Fire and Rescue Service at the scene. A spokesperson for the service said: "North Wales Police were called at 11:07 today following a call from NWFRS with regards to a fire at the Cadbury factory in Chirk." The Mondolez Factory was formerly known as the Cadbury's Factory.
