SALINE TWP., MI — Early construction activities recently got underway at what would be Michigan’s first hyperscale data center to power artificial intelligence and cloud-computing.
A neighboring resident says preliminary site work has already caused nuisances.
While the “Stargate” data center in rural Saline Township — being advanced by ChatGPT creator OpenAI and multinational technology firm Oracle — is not a done deal, the project is allowed to do a limited amount of work to prepare the site for construction.
DTE Energy is still awaiting a decision from state energy regulators on proposed contracts to power the 1.4 gigawatts in electricity demand needed to power the massive 2.2-million-square-foot. And state environmental regulators would need to issue permits. No building permits
