Police say a 52-year-old Connecticut man shot a dog during a domestic dispute in Norwalk this week.
Jeffrey Vigil, of Norwalk, was arrested and faces charges of criminal possession of a firearm, criminal violation of a restraining order, and disorderly conduct in connection with the alleged incident on Dec. 10, police said.
Norwalk police were called to an Old Saugatuck Road home just before 7 p.m. and found a large brown pit bull with a gunshot wound to its shoulder.
Detectives learned Vigil had been in a disturbance with the victim. Police said the dog bit him on the leg. During the fight, Vigil fired a shot that struck the dog and ran off before officers arrived, according to police.
Police said they “immediately provided medical aid, applying pressure to the wound and working to stabilize the dog.” Officers brought the dog to the VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center, where staff later reported it was in stable condition, authorities said.
Detectives recovered “one 9mm shell casing” at the scene. Norwalk Combined Dispatch sent out Vigil’s vehicle information to nearby agencies.
Greenwich police soon found Vigil and took him into custody. Officers also recovered “a Glock firearm in his possession.” He was brought to Greenwich Hospital for treatment before being processed at Norwalk Police Headquarters.
He was being held on a $150,000 bond, officials said. The dog is expected to recover.
