LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The well-being of children in Kentucky is measured through the KIDS COUNT report, an annual assessment that tracks how children are faring in the commonwealth.
This year’s report shows fewer children are living in poverty in Kentucky, with more than 100 counties seeing improvement.
But policymakers say there’s a growing concern: food insecurity. Kentucky Youth Advocates warns that more families are struggling to get enough healthy food in their pantries and are seeing the effects show up in rising childhood obesity rates.
According to the report, in 119 of Kentucky’s 120 counties, more children are going hungry today than they were a year ago.
