CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) - Public transit services, such as Cape County Transit Authority, are facing significant cuts after the state slashed its public transit funding by 42%.
The Cape Girardeau County Transit Authority provided 85,000 rides in the first six months of this year, serving residents across the county, who depend on public transportation for essential services.
“If you now have to go to your employer and say well my transit service has shut down service on Saturday and Sunday, I can no longer get to work,” said Ginny Smith, executive director for the Cape Girardeau County Transit Authority.
The transit authority serves as a countywide provider, connecting residents in Oakridge and other small communities to medical treatments and grocery stores.
