TOLEDO, Ohio — The federal government is weighing housing policy changes that local leaders say could put thousands of people, including many in Ohio, at risk of losing stable housing.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is considering revisions to how it funds programs meant to keep people housed. County officials warn the proposal could create immediate challenges if enacted.

“They're putting at risk a significant number of our citizens that are vulnerable, that are disabled and that have severe and persistent mental health needs,” said Julie Embree, executive director of the Toledo Lucas County Homelessness Board.
