TOLEDO, Ohio — One day after the University of Michigan fired head football coach Sherrone Moore and shortly before his arrest became public, students on the Ann Arbor campus said they’re still processing the sudden turn of events.

In the hours since the announcement, the reaction across campus has been “surprise and shock,” with conversations spreading from hallways to the student union as the fall semester comes to an unexpected close.

Moore was removed from his position Wednesday after the university said he engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Later that same day, officials confirmed he was being held in the Washtenaw County Jail. The specific circumstances surrounding his arrest have not yet been released.
