Mothers' Collective finds estimated 18 sets of human remains in Mexicali desert

A volunteer search collective, accompanied by Mexican authorities, discovered an estimated 18 sets of human skeletal remains Wednesday in a desert area west of Mexicali, near the highway leading to Tijuana.

The discovery was made around 10:00 a.m. by members of the collective Madres Unidas y Fuertes (United and Strong Mothers) during a field search in the remote El Centinela desert zone. The finding of approximately 18 sets of bones underscores the ongoing crisis of missing persons in the border region, La Voz newspaper reported.

The scattered skeletal remains, found across various points of a dirt road just meters apart, included a skull, jawbone, femur, ribs, and other bones.
