Thousands of people are being urged to wear masks and stay at home as flu cases have surged dramatically across England. As per the most recent data an average of 2,660 patients daily occupied hospital beds due to flu in the last week alone.
This marks the highest figure recorded for this period of the year and representing approximately a 55% rise compared to the previous seven-day period. This is equivalent to three entire hospital trusts being full with flu patients.
NHS leaders have cautioned that the figure has already risen substantially since the week captured by the statistics, with no indication of reaching a peak. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is now asking anyone who feels unwell to stay at home where feasible. Content cannot be displayed without consent
