A collaborative approach between Police Scotland and key partners, which puts missing people and their loved ones at the centre, has contributed to a significant reduction in the number of reports of missing people across the country according to the force.
In 2015, Police Scotland launched its dedicated National Missing Persons Unit to provide a consistent approach to investigating reports of missing people within all local police divisions and in 2017 the Scottish Government developed a national missing person framework with help from the unit.
Since 2017, work between policing, health colleagues, local authorities, third sector organisations and the Scottish Government has contributed to a reduction in the number of missing person investigations, from around 23,000 in 2017-18 to
