AKRON, Ohio — With dangerously cold temperatures moving into Northeast Ohio early next week, Akron Mayor Shammas Malik has announced extended hours at the Summit Lake Community Center on Sunday and Monday to serve as a warming center for those in need.

The Summit Lake Community Center, which is located at 380 West Crosier Street, will be open from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. for both of those days.

“The city will continue to monitor temperatures and will extend community center hours as necessary,” according to a press release from Mayor Malik’s office. “Unless otherwise specified, the centers will return to their normal business hours starting Tuesday, Dec. 16.”

All other city community centers will be closed on Sunday, and open during their normal business hours on Monday.
