NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Department of Justice has announced federal charges against multiple Chinese nationals for the alleged theft and resale of restaurant cooking oil in Tennessee and other states.
The DOJ reports that a federal grand jury returned a nine-count indictment charging multiple people in connection with a racketeering conspiracy and more.
A press release accuses the suspects of stealing used cooking oil for it to later be refined into biodiesel fuel and resold. The DOJ says the suspects drove trucks to restaurants in Tennessee and other states and then stole or or attempted to steal cooking oil from their collection tanks.
The stolen cooking oil was then taken to warehouses in Tennessee and other states for it to be sold. The DOJ reports that the proceeds were later
