Coming off an All-Star campaign, third baseman Maikel Garcia has agreed to a five-year extension with a club option for 2031 with the Royals, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand on Friday. The club has not confirmed.
Garcia, 25, earned his first career All-Star berth and Gold Glove Award, playing alongside shortstop Bobby Witt Jr., who signed a 14-year extension in Spring Training of 2024.
Garcia produced career highs in homers (16), RBIs (74) and OPS (.800) and played sterling defense at the hot corner, committing just seven errors for a .980 fielding percentage across 1,144 2/3 innings.
