FORT WORTH, Texas — Police are investigating after they say a woman was fatally shot at a Fort Worth motel after attempting to recover a stolen vehicle early Friday.

Officers were called to a motel in the 1800 block of Jacksboro Highway around 5:30 a.m. Dec. 12 and found a woman with a gunshot wound to her abdomen, police say. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment, but died, according to a press release.

Preliminary details indicated that the owner of a stolen vehicle had found it at the motel and the vehicle's owner and the woman had tried to recover the stolen vehicle before the woman was shot, officials say.

The two people in the stolen vehicle fled the scene on foot, police say.
