A drunk, off-duty police officer drove the wrong way on a Long Island highway before slamming into a garbage truck and injuring three workers, police said.

The collision happened around 4:45 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, when 31-year-old Dominick Milazzo, a Nassau County Police officer, drove his Ford Bronco northbound in the southbound lane of Route 135 in Seaford, according to Nassau County Police.

Milazzo’s Bronco collided with an International Harvester garbage truck, injuring three workers in the vehicle, police said. The occupants — ages 56, 31, and 19 — were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries. Police did not elaborate on the nature of their injuries.

After an investigation, officers arrested Milazzo and transported him to a hospital with minor injuries. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and will be arraigned when medically able, police said.

Milazzo, of Huntington Station, was suspended following the arrest, a Nassau County Police spokesperson confirmed to Daily Voice.
