Wyckoff police reported a series of arrests and investigations involving shoplifting, drunken driving, and vehicle-related incidents in a department blotter released Friday, Dec. 12, which dates back to early fall (see attached).

On Thursday, Dec. 4, at approximately 3:15 p.m., a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Monroe Avenue, police said. The pedestrian, a 30-year-old Wyckoff man, was crossing in a marked crosswalk and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. The driver, a 66-year-old Wyckoff man, was issued a summons for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, according to police.

Police also investigated multiple thefts in residential neighborhoods in early December, including a stolen Kia reported on Tuesday, Dec. 3, and package thefts reported on Saturday, Dec. 7, on Sturbridge Road and Patton Place, police said. Those investigations remain ongoing, according to police.

On Monday, Sept. 30, at approximately 7:30 p.m., officers responded to ShopRite after loss prevention reported a shoplifter in custody, police said. John Avagliano, 69, of Wyckoff, was arrested, released on a summons, and is scheduled to appear in court, according to police.

Police responded to ShopRite again on Saturday, Oct. 12, at approximately 5:20 p.m., where Daniel Dacey, 58, of Wyckoff, was arrested for shoplifting and released on a summons, police said. Earlier that day, at approximately 11:50 a.m., an officer observed a vehicle being driven erratically on Franklin Avenue. Carol O’Brien, 55, of Midland Park, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and related offenses, police said. Her vehicle was impounded under John’s Law, according to police.

Additional DWI arrests were reported throughout October and November, including incidents on Wednesday, Oct. 16, and Friday, Nov. 15, where vehicles left the roadway and struck objects, police said. In both cases, drivers were arrested, charged with drunken driving and related offenses, and had their vehicles impounded under John’s Law, according to police.

Police also reported a steady number of shoplifting incidents at the Wyckoff ShopRite between October and December. Suspects ranged in age and came from several surrounding towns, including Midland Park, Hawthorne, Mahwah, Franklin Lakes, Upper Saddle River, and Waldwick, police said. Most were charged on summonses and released pending court appearances, according to police.
