GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. — With the warmer weather keeping the snow at bay, it's been a late start to ski season in Oregon that's had a domino effect on resorts and rental shops.

Mount Hood is more dirt than snow currently, and visitors to Timberline Lodge told KGW they were disappointed to not see much snow.

Evan Gourley, visiting from Florida, said he was surprised it was this warm up on the mountain.

“We were expecting some more snow up here,” Gourley said. “We were hoping to ski, but it’s hot up here, so it is what it is.”

Timberline marketing and public affairs director, John Burton, said this year is about a month behind the average opening day, which is historically around Nov. 16.
