HILLSBORO, Ore. — Students from Hillsboro High School walked out of class Friday morning, walking over an hour to the Hillsboro Civic Center, all in protest of ICE and its immigration enforcement tactics.
In addition to Hillsboro High, students from Century and Glencoe High School, as well as South Meadows Middle School, also walked out, according to Manny Chavez.
Chavez and his friends spearheaded the walkout. Chavez is known for his passionate speech that went viral at a city council meeting in Hillsboro last month.
Hundreds of students attended the walkout.
“This means everything to me; everyone out here is doing what’s needed. All these schools, we’re going to fill up this entire thing," said Chavez, referring to the Civic Center.
