KEARNEY, Neb. - The top-ranked Nebraska Kearney wrestling team won four matches in overtime to beat ninth-ranked St. Cloud State, 25-7, Friday night in Minnesota.
The Lopers improved to 3-1 and beat the Huskies (5-1) for the first time in seven tries. Five of the setbacks came in the Division II era (since 1990) with SCSU also winning in 1988.
The close wins started right off the bat as graduate Caleb Coyle (Bennington) rallied from a 3-1 first period deficit to win 8-5 in the first tie break period at 125 pounds. He used takedowns in the second period and OT to win. Next, second-ranked Zach Ourada (Skutt Catholic) was tied 1-1 with Dominic Dunato as each wrestler had an escape in regulation. Ourada made it 6-0 on the scoreboard after an extra session takedown.
