Astronomy enthusiasts across the country are set for a celestial spectacle this weekend as one of the last meteor showers of 2025 is set to reach its peak above the UK. The yearly 'Geminids' phenomenon sees fragments plummeting at speed through Earth's atmosphere, where they burn up to create dazzling trails of light.

Although the meteor shower has been visible since December 4, it is anticipated to reach peak viewing conditions over the next few days, according to Dr Shyam Balaji, a research fellow at King's College London. Many across the UK could therefore witness its 'vivid colours', assuming suitable location and meteorological circumstances permit.
