Snow could fall across parts of the UK in just days, the Met Office has warned, with millions of people in one particular area most likely to be hit.
In it's long range prediction for the 15 days from Saturday, December 27, to Saturday January 10, the forecaster said: "Spells of rain and strong winds remain possible, these most likely in the north with a risk of some snow at times. Temperatures are expected to be close to normal overall."
In the lead-up to Christmas, the UK is expected to see waves of unsettled weather , with showers and longer spells of rain affecting several areas. The forecaster says showers are most likely to be heaviest and most persistent in the west and north-east, while more sheltered parts of the east and south-east are typically drier.
Brits hoping for a white Christmas may have to keep their fingers crossed, with any snow from December 17 through to Boxing Day likely to be confined to higher ground in the north, the Met Office's forecast reads.
