SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) -- A multi-vehicle crash near a major interstate interchange is causing the highway to be closed.

Illinois State Police said, troopers are on the scence of a fatal multi-vehicle crash on I-55 southbound near the I-72, Clearlake Avenue exit.

Southbound traffic is being diverted at Exit 100, which is the Sangamon Avenue exit.

The road is expected to be closed for several hours.
