PROVIDENCE, R.I. —
A person was taken into custody Saturday after police in Providence, Rhode Island, responded to an active shooter situation at Brown University .
Just after 4 p.m., the school sent a message warning of an active shooter near Barus & Holley — a building that houses the School of Engineering and the Physics Department.
"Lock doors, silence phones and stay hidden until further notice. Remember: RUN, if you are in the affected location, evacuate safely if you can; HIDE if evacuation is not possible, take cover; FIGHT as a last resort, take action to protect yourself," the alert read.
The school later said a person was taken into custody; however, no other details were shared.
