TACOMA, Wash. — One person is dead following a house fire in Tacoma.

Tacoma Fire Department crews responded before 10:00 a.m. Sunday to reports of smoke coming from a home in the 2400 block of North Union Avenue. Firefighters said the source of the fire was difficult to locate and extinguish due to the condition of the home’s interior.

After about 40 minutes, crews were able to bring the fire under control. During a search of the home, one occupant was found dead inside.

The cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the death have not yet been released. Tacoma Fire said the incident remains under investigation.
